Hey, it’s Jess. 👋

Today I’ve been thinking a lot about music and emotions. Some time ago, I came across the word "frisson" and instantly felt understood.

Frisson (n): the feeling of chills or shivers, often accompanied by a tingling sensation, that results from a powerful emotional response to something like music, art, or a powerful moment.

There have been many times in my life when I’ve felt like this. It’s happened to me through architecture, art, movies, and of course, music. It doesn’t happen a lot, but sometimes I sob. For no other reason than just feeling the beauty of someone’s passion and words, or pain.

The last time this happened was when I was listening to Will Anderson’s new album, "How Little Love Is / How Worth Everything." If anyone else was a fan of the band Parachute (which is still to this day one of my favorite bands), then you know Will Anderson and his songwriting craft. This new project comes after a period of time away from music, with good reason. It’s an ode to his late wife, Courtney Kampa, whom he lost in 2022. He described the album as his “eulogy to her,” as well as a journey through their whole relationship, and it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard.

He recently finished up a small, intimate acoustic tour where he paired his new songs with some of Courtney’s poems that he helped publish into a poetry book called A Bright and Borrowed Light. It was one of the most raw and intimate performances I’ve ever been to, and one of those days I was just deeply grateful music exists.

Check out Will Anderson's acoustic performance of How Little Love Is / How Worth Everything.

Now I want to know from you all: What’s the last thing that made you feel frisson? Was it a powerful lyric in a song? A gut-wrenching movie scene? A piece of art in a museum? Reply to this email. I want to know!

THIS WEEK IN MUSIC NEWS & TOURS 🎤

Post Malone, Jack White & Lil Jon will headline the 2025 NFL Thanksgiving Day halftime shows. Three wildly different energies, one beautifully chaotic holiday tradition. Bless this mess.

Jennifer Aniston & Max Greenfield helped Alex Warren announce his first arena tour with a spoof courtroom video that’s funnier than half the stuff on TV right now. Justice for good promo.

Hilary Duff sold out her January comeback shows in seconds. People had thousands in the queue ahead of them (no exaggeration). For others, prices allegedly went up to almost $300K (is that even possible??). If you’re one of the chosen few who actually got tickets… how?

Lorde will headline All Points East 2026 with a nearly all-female lineup (PinkPantheress, Zara Larsson + more). A whole festival curated for main-character energy.

Rosalía floated through a dreamy, fairytale-core performance of “La Perla” on The Tonight Show. It was complete with a mattress tower, ethereal gown, and peak Rosalía emotional drama.

Now for some tour announcements...

THIS WEEK IN RANDOM, BUT AWESOME EVENTS ✨

Every week, we dig up the weird, the wonderful, and the “should I actually go to this?” type of events and happenings around the country. Here are two that belong on your radar:

Pitch A Friend Night

Think open mic meets matchmaking. You bring your most eligible friend, grab a drink, and pitch them to a room full of strangers like you’re delivering a startup demo… except the product is your friend and the KPI is whether someone asks for their number. It’s chaotic, wholesome, and weirdly effective. Been watching some videos of these, and it seems like a hilariously fun time! See if there’s one happening in your city here.

Pop-Punk Clue Night

It’s part concert, part murder mystery. You’ll wander through the venue listening to all your favorite pop-punk and emo hits while a whodunnit unfolds around you. Chat with performers, chase down clues, and try to pin the murderer for a shot at the $500 cash prize. It’s music, games, chaos, and bragging rights all rolled into one night you definitely won’t forget.
